Timbrell Park Precinct Consultation October 2023

28 September 2023

The City of Canada Bay is pleased to share some exciting updates on projects underway in the Timbrell Park Precinct. By taking a precinct approach, Council teams are working together to achieve community focused outcomes.

Traffic, Parking and Pedestrian Study

We engaged Stantec to conduct a traffic, parking, and pedestrian study in the area. The study considered the streets surrounding Timbrell Park and has identified opportunities to enhance pedestrian and traffic safety and increase overall amenity. The study has now been completed and we are consulting the community on its recommendations.

Plan of Management and Masterplan

In June 2023, we asked for feedback on the draft Timbrell Park Plan of Management (PoM) and Masterplan (MP). With the completion of the traffic, parking and pedestrian study, Council will reflect the outcome of the community consultation regarding proposed angled parking when the PoM and MP are finalised and presented to Council for final adoption.

Playing Fields Upgrade

From October to November 2023, we will be conducting site investigation works and surveying the playing fields to help inform the early planning of the upgrade works. We are calling on the community for any suggestions you would like to make, that Council can consider when developing concept plans for the proposed upgrade works.

  • What is a road reserve?

The road reserve is the area ‘reserved’ for facilities such as roads, footpaths, and associated features that may be constructed for public travel. It is the total area between boundaries. This is the land that is referred to as the public road within the NSW Roads Act 1993

  • Will these improvements reduce speeding in the area?

The recommendations of the traffic study include speed humps and raised pedestrian crossings – it is the intention of these traffic calming measures to increase safety in the area by managing vehicular speed.

  • Will the spaces be timed or paid?

At this stage there will be no restrictions on the parking.

  • Is Council prioritising cars instead of active transport?

Council has considered the needs of a variety of user groups through the Masterplan, Plan of Management and the Traffic, Pedestrian and Parking Study, and always endeavours to provide a balanced outcome for the community.
