During community consultation in July/August 2020, concerns were raised by the community regarding the proposed works on Harris Road particularly in relation to the removal of on-street parking. A revised proposal was developed which minimised the loss of on-street parking and further community consultation was undertaken with the community in October 2020. Concerns were again raised by the community and alternate suggestions were received.

At the Council meeting on 1 December 2020 it was resolved to proceed with the construction of this segment of the route, excluding Harris Road. Further investigations have commenced however work on delivering the cycleway is currently focused on other locations. It is anticipated that further engagement will be undertaken with the community in late 2021.

The cycleway in this segment comprises of a mixture of treatments including:

  • On-road mixed traffic on Henry Street with a raised intersection treatment at Scott Street including traffic priority change, and a speed hump near Elizabeth Street
  • Pedestrian/cyclist refuge and shared path on Harris Road (subject to further review)
  • On-road mixed traffic on William Street, Bevin Avenue for confident cyclists and a shared path for less confident cyclists
  • Continuous footpath treatment on Bevin Avenue at William Street
  • Upgrade of existing refuge islands at the intersection of Lyons Road West and William Street
  • Continuous footpath treatment on Friend Avenue at Lyons Road West
  • Line-marking and signage upgrade

More information on the next steps and timing for this segment of the route will be available in due course.
