In 2020, we consulted with the community regarding a proposed East-West Regional Cycleway. We received valuable feedback from the broader community and residents in and around Harris Road, Five Dock.
Construction of some parts of this route started in June 2021, while further investigation and design work was still underway on other parts. The configuration of the cycleway around Harris Road has been reviewed as part of these further investigations.
As outlined below, it is now proposed to create angled parking in Bevin Avenue to offset the loss of parking spaces in Harris Road. The combination of these works would result in an overall increase of one parking space, a significant improvement compared to the original concept which identified the removal of ten parking spaces.
There were some suggestions from the community that the cycleway should instead be designed for cyclists to ride along Harris Road, without a dedicated cycle lane. Given the high volume of traffic on Harris Road, this would not meet current standards and the needs of less confident cyclists.
The proposed refuge on Harris Road has been designed to minimise the impact on parking as much as possible, while still meeting the needs of cyclists and pedestrians.
We are seeking the community’s feedback on this proposal until Wednesday 23 November 2022.You can provide feedback in one of the following ways:
