The Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link will provide a continuous 91km walking and bike riding route between Parramatta and Sydney central business districts (CBDs), connecting healthy, active and vibrant local centres and foreshore circuits.

The Link will extend Sydney’s communal backyard and improve access for locals and visitors of all ages and abilities to walk and ride bikes for recreation and adventure safely along Sydney’s beautiful river foreshore.

In 2020 the McKell Institute put forward a proposal in a discussion paper called ‘Activating the Harbour City’. The proposal was for a continuous foreshore path between Sydney Opera House and Parramatta CBD with the aim to facilitate job creation and economic activity and reinvigorate daily life through walking and cycling along the foreshore.

In April 2021, Transport for NSW commenced a feasibility study which identified significant opportunities to improve access and provide a continuous walking and cycling route along most of this route.

Council is working collaboratively with Transport for NSW to consider how the Link connects to and extends our local bike network and ensure segments we deliver complement our existing bike plans and Foreshore Access Strategy.

Council has worked closely with Transport for NSW to identify segments of the Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link that are relatively low complexity and can be delivered quickly to provide immediate improvements to foreshore access for people walking and cycling around the City of Canada Bay.

Council will continue to work together with the community and Transport for NSW to plan and deliver future walking and bike connections as part of the Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link (pending future planning and funding decisions).

Community feedback on the proposed segments was supportive of the improvements to safety and journey experience for people walking and riding bikes that these projects would provide, and we also heard support for other sections of the Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link to be considered in the future. The community also shared concerns about the impact of some projects on the local environment and local amenity.

This feedback will be taken into consideration as we prepare the designs for each project, and further consultation may be carried out on a project-by-project basis for consideration before designs are finalised.
