What's happening?
Council is building a new 3.5m wide shared path through Shadrack Shaw Reserve in Concord connecting Kingston Avenue and Nashs Lane/Bertram Street. New kerb ramps will be constructed on Kingston Avenue and Nashs Lane/Bertram Street.
In response to community feedback, the design has been adjusted to avoid tree removal, including preserving an established tree that holds significant commemorative value. Lighting has been confirmed as necessary to improve user visibility and personal safety. The path has been moved to track slightly closer to the mangroves to avoid cutting through the centre of the park. The path could not be moved further due to environmental impacts to the nearby mangroves, which are home to threatened ecological species.
This section of shared path will connect with the existing foreshore route through Majors Bay Reserve (via Kingston Avenue and Deakin Street) and provide a more convenient route for people walking and riding between Mortlake and Majors Bay Reserve.
