Update 15 June: Our grand opening celebrations are going ahead!

Our $5.72 million Charles Heath Reserve Community and Play Space is opening soon! Join us for the official opening on Saturday, 15 June from 10am–1pm to enjoy a free barbecue, live music, face painting, and more.

Proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay, the project has transformed the previously underused space with a brand new, all abilities adventure playground, complete with picnic shelters, barbecues and an amenity building.

The centrepiece of the upgrade is a brand-new adventure playground featuring two accessible play towers positioned high among the treetops. Other features of the playground include outdoor musical instruments, nature play, a 'fish trap' climbing structure, and cozy cocoon for timeout.

Designed in line with the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play guidelines, the playground also features a wheelchair accessible trampoline and carousel, as well as a smooth, soft-fall surface to make it easier to get around.

Help us figure out how many sausages to order for the barbecue!

Project Background

As part of our commitment to providing passive recreation opportunities to our growing community, we are proposing a $5.72 million upgrade to Charles Heath Reserve located on Queens Road in Five Dock, proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay. Located next to Five Dock Leisure Centre, the proposed upgrade will include a regional children’s playground, outdoor exercise station, public domain works such as barbecue facilities and picnic seating, landscaping improvements, and a new café and amenities building.

In June 2020, we asked the community for feedback on the draft masterplan for the space and for ideas as to the types of play and fitness equipment which could be installed. Feedback has been used to develop a detailed design of the space, which can be viewed below.

Notable changes following the first round of community consultation include:

  • Inclusion of accessible picnic tables with shelters.
  • Play spaces include multiple types of play including sand, nature and climbing play. The playground will also feature different forms of accessible play equipment.
  • Additional trees to be planted in landscaped areas.
