What's Happening?

Work is progressing well on our $4.34 million upgrade of Charles Heath Reserve at Queens Road, Five Dock, set to open this June.

The transformation includes a brand-new, accessible adventure playground, picnic shelters, landscaping, and public art.

The playground features two giant play towers nestled high among the treetops, outdoor musical equipment, nature play, slides, a cozy cacoon for time-out, and more.

The $4.34 million project is proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program.

The City of Canada Bay has contributed a further $1.37 million for additional works, including a brand-new amenity building and greenskeeper facility.

Temporary Green Keepers Facilities

The works include the demolition of the existing facilities for the greenkeepers of Barnwell Park Golf Course. A new temporary facilities placed within the golf course, behind O.H Watts Reserve. The plans and location of the facilities are shown in the plan below

Project Background

As part of our commitment to providing passive recreation opportunities to our growing community, we are proposing a $4.7 million upgrade to Charles Heath Reserve located on Queens Road in Five Dock, proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay. Located next to Five Dock Leisure Centre, the proposed upgrade will include a regional children’s playground, outdoor exercise station, public domain works such as barbecue facilities and picnic seating, landscaping improvements and works to the existing adjacent Five Dock Leisure Centre to build a café and new amenities to support these passive recreational facilities.

In June 2020, we asked the community for feedback on the draft masterplan for the space and for ideas as to the types of play and fitness equipment which could be installed. Feedback has been used to develop a detailed design of the space, which can be viewed below.

Notable changes following the first round of community consultation include:

  • Inclusion of accessible picnic tables with shelters.
  • Play spaces include multiple types of play including sand, nature and climbing play. The playground will also feature different forms of accessible play equipment.
  • Additional trees to be planted in landscaped areas.
