Project background

As part of our commitment to providing passive recreation opportunities for our growing community, we are investigating ways we can improve and upgrade Livvi’s Place Playground in Five Dock. Livvi’s Place Playground was installed in 2009 and has set a precedent for inclusive playspace design in Australia. We are very proud of Livvi’s Place and how much it has been utilised and loved by the community.

Earlier this year Council applied for grant from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) as part of the Everyone Can Play grant program to upgrade this space and ensure it continues to provide a quality play experience for all users. Everyone Can Play is a commitment by the NSW Government to create better and more inclusive playspaces across NSW.

The grant provides $55,000 to improve accessibility in the playground, which Council has matched with an additional $55,000 to deliver the upgrade. This $110,000 upgrade will include:

  • Pathway linkages between rubber snake shaped path and the bike path
  • Replacing one sandpit with an inclusive play equipment item
  • Upgrading the sand and water play area
  • Installing new rubber softfall to reduce mulch and sand on the footpath
  • Refurbishing two table settings to be more accessible
  • Replacing the water bubbler with an accessible water refill station.

Help shape the new playground!

We want to know what types of accessible play equipment you would like to see in this space. There is scope to upgrade the sand and water play as well as introduce a few new equipment items. Your feedback will help us decide on the final design and upgrade.
