Consultation outcomes and next steps

14 February 2025

Thank you for your interest in the Five Dock Park Precinct!

Late last year we asked for feedback on four projects in the park - a brand-new amenities building, multi-court, shared path, and traffic and parking changes. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback online, or came down to the park to speak to staff.

We received 64 submissions across all four projects. Some key feedback themes from the submissions are highlighted below:

Amenities building
  • Accessibility — ensuring the design is suitable for people of all ages and abilities
  • Facilities – inclusion of a canteen/kiosk and baby change facilities
  • Visual amenity – ensuring the design fits in with the park.
Multi-court
  • Feedback was mixed, with some concerns over the loss of open space that is currently used for passive recreation
  • Preference for the court to cater for both individual and team play, and a preference for basketball and pickleball
  • Shade, seating, safety and pathway connections were highlighted as important.
Shared path
  • Safety – a few respondents noted a preference for pedestrian crossings rather than refuge islands, and some raised concerns that bikes may use the pedestrian path
  • Footpath connections – alternate suggestions for footpaths and shared path connections were put forward, including a few suggestions for a link from Barnstaple Road into the centre of the park
  • Bike route connectivity was highlighted as important.
Parking changes

Some concerns were raised around:

  • Speed cushions
  • Use of additional parking bays
  • Safety
  • Parking availability.

Next steps

A draft Masterplan for the Precinct is now being developed and will be taken to Council for endorsement to go on public exhibition in the coming months.

An update on each of the projects within the Precinct is provided below.

  • Amenities – installation of temporary toilet facilities is aimed for completion by mid-2025 and nearby residents and stakeholders will be notified prior to installation. Draft concept designs for the new amenities building are being developed and will be shared with the community for further feedback in the coming months.
  • Multi-court – a draft concept plan is being developed and in line with community feedback, alternate locations within the park will be explored.
  • Shared path – designs are being reviewed in light of community feedback
  • Parking changes – in line with community feedback, a pedestrian link from the new parking bays to the centre of the park is being considered. Parking changes will be finalised with works to occur next financial year.
