November Update

20 November 2024

Thanks for signing up to receive updates on Concord to the Bay Run.

Since our last update, Council has resolved to construct the Lyons Road West section of the cycleway in two separate stages, following a recommendation from the Traffic Committee taken to the November Council meeting. You can read more about this in the Council meeting agenda, minutes and attachments (page 50).

This will enable Council to get started on construction and deliver some critical safety improvements in stage one, while further investigating ways to minimise parking impacts in stage two.

This reflects what we heard from the community and key stakeholders earlier this year - that safety is a top priority, and parking loss should be minimised where possible.

Stage one

Stage one involves the section of Lyons Road West from Crane Street to Regatta Road and includes:

  • Two new raised pedestrian crossings
  • Separated cycleway and footpath, with no parking impacts
  • Upgrading the bus stops on Lyons Road West, near Regatta Road

The detailed design for this section will be finalised over the coming months, with construction expected to start in autumn 2025. Stage one is being funded by the NSW Government as part of the Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program.

Stage two

Stage two involves the section of Lyons Road West from Regatta Road to Friend Avenue, and the section of William Street from Friend Avenue down to Bevin Avenue.

We will explore options to minimise parking impacts across this section and a revised design will be taken to Council's Traffic Committee for consideration. We are currently exploring funding opportunities for this stage of the project.
