Proposed parking restrictions
Background
Earlier this year we asked for feedback on a proposal to upgrade the intersection at Brays Road, Gale Street and Mortlake Street to make it safer for pedestrians and vehicles. Works to upgrade the intersection will be starting soon, learn more here and press +Follow at the top of this page to stay up to date.
Community feedback revealed some concerns around parking loss associated with the intersection upgrade. To address this, we are proposing to introduce time restricted parking on sections of Gale Street and Watkin Street.
Take a look and provide your feedback below. Feedback closes Friday, 23 May 2025.
About the proposal
Time restricted parking on Gale Street and Watkin Street
To allow visitors sufficient time to visit businesses in the area and maintain the availability of short-term parking, we are proposing to convert 6 unrestricted parking spaces into time restricted parking with ‘1/2P, 8:30am–6pm Mon-Fri, 8:30am–12:30pm Sat’ parking restrictions on sections of Gale Street and Watkin Street. Details are shown on the map below.
10m ‘No Stopping’ restrictions on Watkin Street
Following an investigation by Council officers it was observed that motorists were frequently parking within 10m of the intersection on the western side of Watkin Street, making it difficult for vehicles to enter Watkin Street from Brays Road.
Per the NSW Road Rules, motorists are not permitted to stop within 10m of an intersection. To assist with safe vehicle thoroughfare, Council will be implementing regulatory 10m ‘No Stopping’ restrictions at the western side of Watkin Street. This will ensure that there is sufficient space for motorists to travel through the intersection safely. Details are shown on the map below.

Update
Feedback on these proposals closed on 19 January 2025 and a report was then taken to Council's Traffic Committee and Council. Learn more.
About the proposed intersection upgrade
Council is proposing to upgrade the intersection at Brays Road, Gale Street and Mortlake Street in Concord to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and vehicles.
The proposed upgrade includes:
- Reconstruction of the existing pedestrian refuge islands on Gale Street and Mortlake Street and installation of new kerb extensions and pram ramps to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the road
- Installation of new kerb extensions and pram ramps on Brays Road to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the road
- Installation of speed cushions to slow vehicles down near the intersection
- Installation of safety fencing adjacent to the pram ramp on Mortlake Street to encourage pedestrians to cross the road at the refuge.
The proposed upgrade would result in the removal of six on-street parking spaces, three on Brays Road and three on Gale Street.
Details of the proposed upgrade are outlined on the map below. Take a look and provide your feedback by Sunday 19 January 2025.
Adam Street centreline adjustment
Council is also proposing to adjust the centre line makings on Adams Street, adjacent to Brays Road, to improve vehicle movements through the narrow street. This adjustment would make it safer for vehicles to turn left from Brays Road into Adams Street, and would not result in any parking loss.
Details are outlined on the map below. Take a look and provide your feedback by Sunday 19 January 2025.
