The City of Canada Bay has received funding under round three of the NSW Boating Now Program (BNP) from the NSW Government to construct a passive craft launch facility adjacent to Uhrs Point Reserve, Rhodes.

This reserve is located on the southern foreshore of the Parramatta River on the western side of the Ryde Bridge. Uhrs Point Reserve is the home of 1st Yaralla Sea Scouts Group and DSA Dragon Boat Club.

The proposed launch facility which is being designed by Royal Haskoning Australia will provide launch facilities for craft used by the Sea Scouts, Dragon Boat Club and will also be available to the general public for passive craft.

The new launch facility will open to the public on Monday, 28 February 2022.

The final sections of the launch ramp are being installed onsite and temporary fencing adjacent to the entry to the launch ramp will remain in place during the launch ramp trial period. Please observe all signage on the temporary fencing.

Materials for the launch ramp are currently being manufactured offsite while work onsite is underway to prepare pylons for the ramp installation. The ramp installation is expected to take approximately 5-6 weeks to complete.

This project has been been progressing well and Council has engaged Polaris Marine Constructions to undertake the installation of the launch facility. Construction is due to commence 30 August, weather permitting.

Council has engaged Polaris Marine Constructions to undertake the installation of the launch facility. The NSW Government Boating Now Program has provided $716,700 which has contributed significantly to realising this project in partnership with Council.

Royal Life Saving NSW has been appointed to conduct an Aquatic Safety Signage Assessment at Uhrs Point Reserve during the planning stage of the project to identify a clear strategy for the use of safety signs and publicly accessible rescue equipment in the management of aquatic risk at the reserve. Council is also investigating improvements to the reserve to improve car parking and site access, tree planting and secure facilities for kayak/dinghy and bike storage.

The passive craft launch facility, installation of safety signs and publicly accessible rescue equipment is anticipated to be completed in Summer 2022.
