Murphy Park Mortlake - Update

29 August 2022

Council has engaged the artist Lise Hobcroft to undertake an installation in Murphy Park on the corner of Edwin and Hilly Streets in Mortlake. The artwork is a woven installation on the ball screen adjacent to the mini basketball court. The artwork title is Interwoven recognising mariners past and present. The marine ropes used to weave together colours in the work are symbolic of the land and waters of Canada Bay. The weave will be installed using a simple tabby weave, the marine ropes are woven over and under the chain link fence, to create ripples, reflected in the nearby waters around Canada Bay. The colours used represent the tones of the surrounding waters and the rich and vibrant ochres from the land of the first inhabitants, the Wangal clan.
