Council's Sustainability and Community Development teams have partnered to create the Schools Partnership Network which focuses on environmental education and youth issues in the City of Canada Bay.

The network offers hands-on educational experiences, such as student leadership mentoring, professional development workshops and incursions/excursions to schools within the City of Canada Bay. Topics on offer range from mental health and wellbeing, Indigenous education, gardening, litter reduction, energy, water, food and fashion.

Meetings are held once a term and are open to all principals, teachers, P&C of schools in the City of Canada Bay.

Brays Bay Reserve Saturday 30th May 2026 10am - 12pm

Join us to help restore local bushland by planting native species on Wangal Country, contributing to a national effort to plant 96,500 natives and create a thriving green corridor between McIlwaine Park, Rhodes Park and the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway.

Burwood Council, City of Canada Bay Council, Strathfield Council and Climate Action Burwood Canada Bay (CABCB) would like to invite their local high schools to participate in the Speaking 4 the Planet competition to celebrate World Environment Day 2026.

We are pleased that the host of Speaking 4 the Planet 2026 is MLC School, Burwood. An invitation is extended by the Principal, Ms Moloney and students of MLC School to all high schools in the Burwood Council, City of Canada Bay Council and Strathfield Council areas to join them for 2026’s Speaking 4 the Planet competition.

The theme for S4P2026 is: For Earth's sake, listen to us!

The competition will be comprised of 5 categories:

  • Speaking: one student per school to give a 3-minute prepared speech.
  • Writing: a writing piece to be a maximum of 30 words in prose, not poetry, presented in large font on A3 size paper.
  • Visual Art: this category artwork can be paintings or drawings in any medium.
  • Recycled Art: this category is any artwork that uses recycled/upcycled materials as the essential components of its creative process.
  • Open Category: this category is any medium such as song, poetry, sculpture, dance etc.

Note: Schools are not required to register in all 5 categories, only ones they wish to participate in.

Free recycling and sustainability education resources are available for primary and secondary teachers, designed to engage students and support classroom learning. The materials focus on recycling, resource recovery, the circular economy, and making informed, sustainable choices. Featuring Australian Curriculum‑aligned lesson plans, the content places students and their ideas at the centre, empowering young people to take positive action through knowledge and best‑practice learning.

As part of Reconciliation Week in May/June, Concord library will be hosting an Aboriginal Astronomy Talk on Thursday May 28 from 6pm conducted by Dr Kirsten Banks.

Dr Banks is an astrophysicist and science communicator who has made appearances on radio shows on 2SER, Triple M and has also appeared as a panelist on the ABC program Q&A and will be in Sydney for one evening only to deliver this talk!

Free Online Course for Young People (Ages 14–24)

City of Canada Bay Council is sharing a great free opportunity for young people interested in leadership, health, and creating positive community impact.

The Health Hive, in partnership with the University of Sydney, has launched a short online course:
Foundations in Public Health Research and Advocacy for Young People

This course is ideal for students interested in student leadership, community projects, or health and social issues.

If you're aged 12–24 and are looking for a relaxed space to hang out and meet new people, our weekly drop-in sessions at Concord Community Centre could be for you!

There's no expectations and no registrations needed — just drop in to chill, create, chat… or just exist. We have craft activities, snacks, music, sensory items and more — every Tuesday from 3:30–5:30pm.

eSafety's professional learning covers the latest online safety research, case studies and teaching and support strategies. It aims to support educators and those who work with young people in school and other settings to integrate online safety into their teaching and learning programs and student wellbeing education.

Please note certificates of attendance are not issued for webinars. You will receive a webinar registration email with session details. Please check with your relevant regulatory authority for professional learning documentation requirements.
