As part of our commitment to road safety around local school zones, we encouraged students to use their creativity to create posters about how to stay safe when driving, cycling, or walking in the area around their school. This competition was open to all K–6 students who live in the City of Canada Bay or attend a school within the local government area.

As part of our commitment to road safety around local school zones, we are hosting a poster design competition to encourage students to use their creativity to create posters about how to stay safe when driving, cycling, or walking in the area around their school. This competition is open to all K–6 students who live in the City of Canada Bay or attend a school within the local government area.

Each major prize winner will receive a $100 Spotlight voucher. There will be four major prize winners in the following categories:

• Stage One: Years K–2
• Stage Two: Years 3–4
• Stage Three: Years 5–6
• People’s Choice

There will be three runners up, with each awarded a $50 Dymocks voucher.

Original artwork submissions (A3 or A4) can include but are not limited to:

• Digital graphic art (design or drawing which may include collage)
• Hand-drawn art (crayons, coloured pencil, marker, paint etc.)

All eligible entries will be judged by representatives from the City of Canada Bay’s Media and Communications, Traffic and Transport, and Place teams. The panel will judge each entry for its creativity, ability to illustrate the topic, as well as the design techniques applied.

There will be four major prize winners: one for each category and a People’s Choice Award winner, which will be decided through a vote on Facebook. Each prize winner will receive a $100 Spotlight voucher.

There will be 3 runner-up prize winners: one for each category. Each runner up will receive a $50 Dymocks book voucher.

Winners will be contacted and announced by the Mayor at the Council Chambers on Tuesday 18th October 2022 at 5pm. Good luck to all entrants!

To enter, simply upload a photo or scanned pdf of your A3 poster to this website by clicking on the 'upload my photo' button below. The poster design must be an original and creative artwork which highlights how to be safe when in and around a School Zone.

To be eligible for the prize, your entry must include within your photo description:

• Student’s name
• Students school name
• Students school year
• One sentence about your poster outlining the title and subject of the poster (please type this in the submission box)

The poster can be uploaded as an image file e.g. jpeg, png, pdf

Competition opens: Monday, 1 August 2022 at 9am
Competition closes: Monday, 19 September 2022 at 5pm

Employees of the City of Canada Bay and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.

All entrants must be enrolled in school in years K–6 and either be residents of the City of Canada Bay or attend a local school within the City of Canada Bay.

All entries must be made with consent of a parent or guardian.

We’re looking for interesting and creative poster designs which helps to raise awareness of how to stay safe when driving, cycling or walking in the area around a school.

Students might like to consider incorporating a variety of road safety messages /images, road infrastructure (signage, crossing points, footpaths, speed humps etc) and various street furniture (seating, rubbish bins, playgrounds etc) which they might observe in and around their school. They can also include a variety of transport modes such as vehicles (big and small), buses, bicycles and pedestrians etc.

Prizes will be awarded in the three categories outlined below.

• Stage 1: Years K - 2
• Stage 2: Years 3 - 4
• Stage 3: Years 5 – 6

A People’s Choice Award will also be announced and will be voted upon using the City of Canada Bay’s Facebook page.

By entering the competition, entrants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of the ‘Keeping our children safe’ poster design competition.

Council reserves the right to verify the validity of all entries and disqualify any entrant for tampering with the entry process, including but not limited to, submitting an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions.
