Project overview

You may have already paid a visit to Rhodes Central shopping centre, the first stage of the Rhodes West Station Precinct development.

Following a Voluntary Planning Agreement between Council and the developer (Billbergia), the development will provide the Rhodes community with a number of new public amenities. This includes the construction and fit-out of a new Council-owned recreation centre spread over the lower three levels of the 34 Walker Street residential tower, anticipated to open in the middle of 2025.

Layout

Rhodes Recreation Centre will provide our Rhodes community with a brand new place to come together, exercise, and have fun. The centre will include the following facilities:

Basement:
  • Council-operated car parking
Level one:
  • Foyer
  • Childcare centre (70 places)
  • Allied health services
  • Public amenities
  • Community space — including a café, community lounge, and bookable workshop space.
Level two:
  • Foyer
  • Gym and creche
  • Gymnastics centre
  • Public amenities
  • Two multi-use courts with mezzanine viewing.

Stages of construction

The Rhodes West Station Precinct Development is broken into three stages, all of which will include basement car parking with residential, retail, and council spaces:

Stage one
6–10 Walker Street, Rhodes and 11–21 Marquet Street, Rhodes:
Two residential towers above a podium with a retail centre and extensive public domain offering.

Stage two
34 Walker Street, Rhodes:
Two residential towers above a podium, includes the Rhodes Recreation Centre.

Stage three
25–29 Marquet Street, Rhodes:
One residential tower above a podium that will be an extension of the stage one retail centre (subject to approvals).
