Walker Street and Mary Street – upcoming traffic and access changes

As part of ongoing works in the Rhodes Station Precinct, temporary changes to traffic conditions will continue along Walker Street and Mary Street over the coming weeks.

Below is a summary of what to expect and when.

From Wednesday 17 December

  • No Stopping signs will be installed and enforced on Walker Street north of the new pedestrian crossing.
  • These restrictions are in place to prepare for scheduled tree removal works on 3 and 4 January.

Friday 19 December – Friday 2 January Christmas and New Year shutdown period

  • Two-way traffic will be in place through Walker Street and Mary Street.
  • The permanent pedestrian crossing between Rhodes Station and Rhodes Central will be open.
  • Bus services will not operate on Walker Street or Mary Street during this period.

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 January -Tree removal works

  • Walker Street (between Gauthorpe Street and Mary Street) will be limited to local traffic only.
  • Access will be managed by on-site traffic controllers to ensure safety.

From Monday 5 January onwards

  • Two-way traffic will be reinstated on Walker Street north of the new crossing.
  • A construction zone will be in place on the southern side of Walker Street, including Mary Street through to Rider Boulevard, with no vehicular access permitted in this area.

We thank the community for their patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out. Traffic control signage and personnel will be in place to assist road users and pedestrians throughout the works.
