Are you someone who celebrates Lunar New Year in Rhodes? If you do, what do you love about the celebrations? Whether it's the cultural tradition, the food, or just the chance to connect with friends and neighbours – we want to hear from you! We would also like to hear from any Rhodes business owners who would like to get involved in the celebration.

Whatever your interest and motivation, we want your feedback to strengthen how our community experiences Lunar New Year.

Background:

Lunar New Year is considered to be one of the most important social and economic holidays in China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia and other countries all over the world. Lunar New Year is based on the lunar calendar and has been celebrated in Rhodes every year since 2015, bringing family, friends and the community together in a festive outdoor experience at Foreshore Park.

With the disruption to community events during the COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity has arisen for the community to come together to review, refresh and reimagine how this culturally significant event may be observed and celebrated.

In 2023 Lunar New Year falls on Sunday, 22 January beginning the Year of the Rabbit.

Get involved:

We invite Rhodes residents, workers, visitors and businesses to help reimagine this cultural event by attending a consultation workshop, focus group or completing the online survey below by 5pm Friday, 9 September, 2022.
