A recently commissioned Draft Flood Study in the Powells Creek catchment in Concord is now available for public comment and feedback.
The aim of the study is to enable Council and property owners to better identify and manage the potential impact of flooding on their individual assets.
Please note: all properties that fall within the Powells Creek catchment were contacted about this Study directly. If you have not been contacted directly, the Study findings are not relevant to your property.
Project Background
The City of Canada Bay recently commissioned WMAwater to undertake a Draft Flood Study for the Powells Creek catchment including sections of North Strathfield and Concord West.
The commissioning of the Draft Flood Study is a requirement of Councils under the NSW Government’s Floodplain Management Program. The objective of a flood study is to improve understanding of flood behaviour to better inform flood risk management for property owners and community assets. The overall Flood Management Program’s outcome is to increase community safety and to mitigate damage to private and public assets.
The initial stage of developing this flood study included seeking information in 2016 from property owners on past flood events. This formed part of the consultation undertaken for the Powells Creek and Saleyards Creek Flood Study in 2016 commissioned by Strathfield Council.
You can read and download the draft below, and a hard copy of the Draft Study is available at Concord Library, 60 Flavelle Street, Concord, or at Five Dock Library 4-12 Garfield Street, Five Dock. Frequently asked questions can be viewed here.
