What's happening?

As part of our commitment to improving road safety and traffic flow, Council is proposing to introduce ‘No Parking’ restrictions during peak times on Pomeroy Street, at the corner of George Street.

At present, the intersection of George Street and Pomeroy Street experiences high volumes of congestion during peak travel times due to the influx of commuting vehicles. Investigations during peak periods have found that vehicles queue up to 200m, resulting in wait times of 5 to 10 minutes before crossing the intersection. The congestion at this intersection is exaggerated by parked vehicles on the northern side of Pomeroy Street.

The proposed changes to improve congestion and safety are:

  • Installing a ‘No Stopping’ sign on Pomeroy Street, making it clear that as part of regulatory standards, vehicles cannot stop within 20 metres of a signalised intersection
  • Installing ‘No Parking, 7:30–9am, 3–7pm, Monday to Friday’ signs from the proposed ‘No Stopping’ up to the driveway of 7A Pomeroy Street.

Improving traffic flow on the approach to the traffic signals will enable more traffic to pass through the intersection during each green light, reducing congestion and allowing safer access to and from properties on the street.

See the map below for further detail. Feedback on these proposed changes is open until Sunday, 27 April 2025.
