About the pre-approved permit
The City of Canada Bay is launching a 12-month trial program from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 inviting mobile food vendors to apply for a pre-approved permit to operate at approved temporary events within the local government area. This pre-approved permit aims to simplify and expedite the application process, making it quicker and more convenient for food vendors and event organisers to plan and host events in the City of Canada Bay.
The permit is exclusively for temporary events that have been approved by Council, where the food vendor has been invited by the event organiser and has completed the necessary application and notification forms. To apply for the pre-approved permit trial, please complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form below. Provided that you meet the assessment criteria, successful applicants will be notified of the outcome. Up to 20 mobile food vendor permits are available for the trial period.
A mobile food vendor operates from a registered vehicle,* which can be self-propelled or otherwise, designed for mobility and used for the purpose of selling food at various locations, whether on land, water, or in the air.
This includes vehicles used for:
- On-site food preparation (e.g., hamburgers, hot dogs, kebabs)
- One-step food preparation (e.g., popcorn, fairy floss, coffee, fresh juice)
- The sale of pre-packaged food.
These vehicles are equipped to serve food directly to customers, either through immediate preparation or the sale of pre-made items.
* A registrable vehicle within the meaning of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007, or a cart, bicycle cart or the like must operate in accordance with the Guidelines for mobile food vending vehicles (NSW/FA/F1055/1302) published by the NSW Food Authority in February 2013, and any requirements of the Food Act 2003.
Assessment Criteria
The criteria will be used to select up to 20 mobile food vendors to receive the pre-approved permit as part of Plug & Play Canada Bay's trial.
