Mother’s Day, the biggest retail day after Christmas, is this Sunday and the City of Canada Bay is encouraging people in our area to shop local to help support you and your business.

Sign up to Love Local to get your business on the map here. The Love Local map will be promoted to over 90,000 residents regularly via our media channels.

We’ve pulled together some innovative ideas to pivot your business. Given the postal system is under pressure, there’s opportunity to leverage this holiday. The key is to make your offering easy to buy and receive/collect. Offering local delivery is also extra valuable now as people self-isolate.

Quick pivots to boost business

Eateries

What a great opportunity for take away businesses who would not normally see Mother’s Day trade as people book restaurants and fine dining.

We have suggested locals may like to pre-order special Mother’s Day food offerings from our local businesses to save them time and energy cooking. Promote on your social channels and perhaps package up a deal on your menu for Mother’s Day.

Florists

Flowers are a classic and beloved gift for mum. Promoting things like bespoke “Bouquets of Mum’s faves” and including cards with a bouquet purchase makes you a one stop shop this Sunday.

Photographers

We have suggested people purchase gift cards for Mother’s Day photoshoots either portrait or family groups. This could be redeemed when restrictions lift.

Beauticians and salons

Why not promote self-care packages you can buy now, and vouchers for when restrictions lift? This could assist with current cashflow.

Small providores

Mother’s Day treat bundles will fly off your shelves. You could also create a recipe, film a “how to” video, promote on your social media channels and offer a package of the ingredients.

Gift cards for now and when restrictions lift

If you are encouraging people to purchase gift cards please be aware, with some exclusions they must:

  • Have a minimum three-year expiry period
  • Display expiry dates
  • Not have any post purchase fees - these are banned.
