Updated Masterplan to be taken to Council

29 November 2023

From 9 October – 16 November 2023 we asked for feedback on an updated draft Masterplan for Howley Park. 47 submissions were received and overall, there was support for the draft Masterplan.

Community feedback also asked for:

  • Improved beach access
  • Grass areas to be maintained
  • Parking matters to be considered (more, less, or timed parking)

Feedback has been used to make some changes to the draft Masterplan which include:

  • A terraced area in Howley Park West shown as decomposed granite paving has been amended to grass to retain the park’s existing character and maximise green space
  • A secondary set of stairs and sections of retaining walls in Howley Park West have been removed with minimal impact to the design intent to minimise built structures encroaching into the park’s green space
  • Proposed stair access to the beach off Howley Park East has been added. This will be investigated during the detailed design phase to determine the optimal alignment of the stairs.
  • Access to the foreshore via a set of informal timber sleeper stairs has been added in Howley Park East
