Thanks for signing up to receive updates on our upgrade to Howley Park, Drummoyne.

In preparation for the upgrade of Howley Park, Council commissioned a detailed site investigation, which has found traces of contaminants buried on site. If left undisturbed, these contaminants do not pose any current safety risks; however, they may be disturbed during excavation works and require careful remediation.

A Remediation Action Plan has been developed to protect the health and safety of our community and workers during construction, and remediation work will be undertaken within a highly controlled and contained environment in accordance with EPA requirements.

Our project team is now required to submit a development application (DA) for remediation works to be completed onsite. Nearby residents will receive notification of the DA in the coming weeks.

Taking into consideration the remediation works and other project constraints, construction will take place in two stages:

Stage One — landscaping and accessibility upgrades

Stage One will include the creation of a lawn terrace, the installation of new bench seats and seating walls, upgrades to the existing path network, the construction of stairs for beach access, and planting of additional trees and shrubs. Stage One is proudly funded by the NSW Government and the City of Canada Bay.

Stage Two — streetlights and parking

Stage Two is proposed to include the construction of a new parking area and pathways, as well as the installation of street lighting. Council is currently exploring funding opportunities for Stage Two.

We anticipate construction on Stage One will commence mid-2025 and are looking forward to making the park even more accessible, beautiful, and enjoyable for our residents. Nearby residents will be notified prior to construction and before remediation works take place.
