Project Update - February 2023

Construction has been delayed due to wet weather and supply chain issues on construction materials. We are therefore updating our anticipated completion date of the amenities building to the mid-2023. The reconstruction of the crib retaining wall is near completion.

Project Update - May 2022

The construction contract was awarded following an open tender in late 2021. Construction commenced onsite in January 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-2022. The crib wall renewal is also planned to be completed by mid-2022.

Development Application Approved - May 2021

The Development Application (DA2020/0379) for the Goddard Park Amenities Building upgrade was heard at the City of Canada Bay Local Planning Plan held on Wednesday 26 May 2021. The outcomes of this meeting can be found on Council’s website here.

The following recommendation was made:

THAT the Canada Bay Local Planning Panel, as the determining authority on behalf of Council, grant consent to Development Application No. 2020/0379 for Refurbishment of amenities building and construction of ground keepers store with ancillary landscaping on land at Goddard Park, 52P Gipps Street, Concord, subject to the specific conditions. In granting consent Council has regard to the merit considerations carried out in the assessment report and pursuant to s.4.15 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. On consideration of the merits of the case the Panel on behalf of Council notes that it supports the application based on the particular circumstances of the case and does not consider that the consent gives rise to a precedent.

The project team will now move forward with design development and the letting of a tender for the construction works. A contract is expected to be awarded by the end of the year, with construction due to commence early 2022.

The DA submitted plans can be viewed in the Document Library on this page.

Goddard Park is one of two premium sports field complexes in the City of Canada Bay. The park is heritage listed and, together with Queen Elizabeth Park and Rothwell Park, it forms an open space of regional significance. There are two pitches in Goddard Park, both used for cricket and rugby. School athletics activities are also staged in the park.

Goddard Park has an amenities building to the south-east of the main field built over two levels and incorporated into the retaining structures on that side of the field. The current facility was built in the early 1980's, is outdated and doesn't meet the needs of the sports clubs or site users.

The Goddard Park Amenities Upgrade project is funded by the Federal Government and the City of Canada Bay.

As part of our commitment to provide quality facilities that meet the needs of our growing community, we are planning a $1.3 million upgrade to Goddard Park's amenities building.

The project will include the partial demolition and refurbishment of the existing amenities building in order to construct a new, high-quality facility. The external storage building will also be increased in size to accommodate the growing requirements of the park's users.

Project plans include the following features:

  • A committee room
  • A new canteen
  • Public amenities
  • Umpire room
  • Large unisex change rooms and shower facilities
  • A covered spectator viewing area
  • First aid room
  • Sports store rooms
  • A separate Council storage facility
  • Improved park accessibility
  • landscaping improvements
