Apply for parking permits

Types of permits

Each eligible residential property can apply for up to three Residential Parking Permits minus the number of off-street parking spaces they have at the property. These permits last for two years and are tied to a specific vehicle registration number.

Some properties are not eligible for permits due to development application conditions. Other properties, such as duplexes, may appear as multiple properties but are classified as a single property. In such cases, Council will only consider the collective as one property.

Each eligible business property can apply for up to two business parking permits minus the number of off-street parking spaces. These permits last for one year and are not tied to a specific vehicle registration number.

Some properties are not eligible for permits due to development application conditions. Other properties, such as those with multiple commercial tenancies, may appear as multiple properties but are classified as a single property. In such cases, Council will only consider the collective as one property.

All eligible residences within a Permit Parking Scheme are eligible for a Visitors Parking Permit. This permit is valid for one year and is not tied to a specific vehicle registration number, making it easy to transfer between vehicles.

Due to the nature of these permits, they are not replaced if they are lost, stolen or damaged. This is to ensure the integrity of the scheme is not compromised.

Permit allocation

Permit Parking Schemes (PPS) must follow mandatory guidelines set out by Transport for NSW which are reflected in Council's Parking Policy. These schemes are typically designed around areas with little to no off-street parking facilities. This can take the form of a garage, carport, driveway or any other such space that is designed to store vehicles located within a property. The diagram below illustrates how Council typically considers these spaces.

If you have any queries relating to the calculation of spaces for your specific property, please contact Council's Traffic and Transport team to discuss.
