Project background

The Five Dock Metro is currently underway and long periods of construction pose a number of challenges for local businesses. Sydney Metro have appointed Place Managers to manage the area as work progresses and we would like to send them a proposed strategy to guide programs aimed at supporting our local businesses through this difficult time.

Council recently met with a group of business owners in Five Dock to discuss potential challenges and opportunities. Predicted challenges include:

  • Heavy truck movements
  • Construction noise
  • Dust
  • Lack of parking (trades parking, road closures, relocation of bus stops)
  • Disruption to deliveries
  • Visual appeal of the streetscape
  • Footpath dining becoming less attractive
  • Vacant sites.

We want to know what support your business needs in order to minimise disruptions brought by this construction. Feedback will be used to create a strategy to support local business, which will be presented to Council later this month and then taken to Sydney Metro.
