Nurturing Emerging Leaders to Build Social Cohesion

Want to help our emerging community leaders bring exciting new ideas to life?

We are seeking expressions of interest from Council staff to join our Nurturing Emerging Leaders Program. The program aims to build social cohesion and is designed to develop the capacity and skills of our emerging community leaders in community engagement, leadership, civic participation and advocacy. We will be working with emerging leaders from community groups, including youth, LQBTQIA+, and CALD communities.

The program aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and mentors are asked to bring their knowledge, experience and expertise, while creating a safe and productive space for all participants. Mentors will represent Council’s diversity that is inclusive of all genders, age groups, abilities, and cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

What's involved?

A workshop facilitator will be engaged to develop and deliver 10 face-to face group mentoring sessions over the course of 20 weeks. Sessions will be attended by both program participants and mentors.

Training sessions may cover the following:

  • Cultural awareness training
  • Communication, intercultural communication
  • Community capacity, community development principles
  • Social media and online tools to build and support community
  • Collaboration, partnership and funding opportunities in the local area
  • Leading change
  • Event planning and event management
  • Team building
  • Leadership styles

Mentors will be required to participate in all aspects of the program and commit to all sessions. Sessions will take place fortnightly with some running on a Saturday from 10am–3:30pm, and others taking place in the evenings from 6–8:30pm.

Mentors will be compensated for their time outside of their normal working hours.
