Originally established in 2003 as the Sustainable City Committee, this group brings together community members who care deeply about improving and protecting our natural environment.

Core objectives
The Committee's core objectives include:
- Serving as a vital communication channel between the community and Council on environmental matters
- Promoting and enhancing awareness of sustainability and environmental issues within the community
- Supporting the implementation of Council’s Community Strategic Plan and adopted environmental strategies and policies
- Leveraging the skills and expertise within our community to ensure Council projects and programs reflect best practices
What does it involve?
The Committee meets bi-monthly, with meetings chaired by a nominated City of Canada Bay Councillor. Members also contribute by volunteering their time at community events and developing local projects that foster sustainability and environmental awareness.

Rhodes Community Committee
Are you a local champion keen to enhance the liveability and prosperity of the Rhodes Peninsula? The Rhodes Community Committee (RCC) may be the forum for you.
The RCC was first formed in 2014 and was established to strengthen communication and engagement between the Rhodes community and Council for the strategic development and improved liveability of the Rhodes peninsula (including Rhodes and Liberty Grove). This committee is not a decision-making body of Council, however, it provides an instrumental role in raising issues direct with Council to inform strategic projects as part of Council's delivery plan.
The role of the Rhodes Community Committee is to:
- Provide local insights and focus on strategic matters and plans for the Rhodes Peninsula
- Assist Council with connection, communication and engagement of the Rhodes Peninsula community
- Work in partnership with stakeholders to improve the liveability of the Rhodes area.
Up to 10 resident members and two business representatives are appointed to the RCC for a Council term, and all members must live in or operate a business in the Rhodes Peninsula.
Committee meetings occur quarterly. Additional meetings may be called to address special or urgent matters.
Committee meetings are chaired by a nominated City of Canada Bay Councillor representative.
Committee work is supported by the Place Manager Rhodes.

Access and Inclusion Committee
The City of Canada Bay is looking for people to become members of the Access and Inclusion Committee. This Committee plays an important role in creating an accessible and inclusive city for everyone, with equal opportunities to be actively involved in our diverse community.
The Access and Inclusion Committee will comprise of up to 10 community representatives, appointed for a four-year term (or until a Council election).
Purpose of the Committee
The main purpose of the Committee is to help Council improve access and inclusion in our services and programs and:
- Provide expertise and advice to Council to assist implementation of the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP)
- Promote access and equity and raise awareness of the rights of people with a disability including people who are socially isolated within the community.
- Contribute to increasing inclusion of people across all sections of our diverse community
- Support the implementation of Council’s strategies and plans
Committee meetings
The Committee will meet four times per year, face to face (with an online option). This can be subject to change.
Committee meetings are chaired by the Mayor, or nominee, along with one other appointed Councillor who will represent Council.

Selection criteria
Applications are assessed against the following selection criteria:
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, understanding and experience in access and inclusion principles and how they relate to issues in the Canada Bay Local Government Area
- Understanding of Council’s DIAP and associated legislation
- Be collaborative, inclusive and support a sense of belonging for all people from diverse backgrounds
- Be available to attend meetings and demonstrate a willingness to volunteer time to work on the implementation of DIAP actions
- Reside or work (in a paid or voluntary capacity) in the Canada Bay Local Government Area
We are looking for a diverse mix of community representations for the Access and Inclusion Committee, such as:
- People with lived experience of disability
- Carers of someone with disability
- People from diverse social backgrounds
- Staff employed by not-for-profit organisations providing disability or inclusion services locally
