Byrne Avenue shared path

In September/October 2020 we consulted with the community regarding a proposed shared path along Byrne Avenue, Russell Lea. We received valuable feedback, including ideas about how to make it even better.

At the Council meeting on 1 December 2020, it was resolved that the existing footpath along Byrne Avenue be upgraded to a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. Council has recently completed the detailed design for the construction of this path, which can be viewed below.

The construction of this project is scheduled to commence early July 2021 with completion expected by the end of August 2021, weather permitting.

In our commitment to sustainability and promoting active transport, we are continuing to expand our bike networks to provide a safe cycling environment for people of all ages and riding abilities.

The City of Canada Bay is proposing to upgrade the existing footpath along Byrne Avenue to a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. This will create a link between the existing shared paths in Lysaght Park and Russell Park.

As detailed in the concept plan, this proposal will require the removal of nine on-street parking spaces. This will achieve the required width for a shared path and enhance the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
