Project background
Recently local residents have come to Council with concerns related to the Brewer Street precinct in Concord. In consultation with the community, we prepared a Brewer Street Action Plan. This page provides information on Council's progress with this plan.
How we are addressing community concerns
- Youth Programs - Council's
Community Services team have been working to attract a youth services officer.
A grant proposal has been prepared to attract youth programs officer for this
area
- A youth event is
proposed for later in 2022 by Council's Road Safety Officer
- Neighbourhood watch
workshop hosted and Brewer Street residents invited. No group has emerged
from the community
- Vandalism addressed by
Council
- Police aware of issues
in the neighbourhood and have implanted patrol campaigns
- Sign installed at Brewer Street carpark:
Road Safety
- Traffic calming signage
installed
- Traffic speed monitoring
ongoing.
- Clothing bin removed -
littering reported has dropped
- Litter surveillance is
ongoing and CCTV camera was installed – no littering detected since the
removal of the clothing bin.
Signage
- New parking signage
installed
- "Be a good neighbour" sign
installed.
- Consultation about time
limited parking was inconclusive. Council's Traffic Committee did not
support change due to limited responses from proponents in the
consultation. This action will not be progressed
- $50,000 has been
invested in additional lighting at the pedestrian crossing. This
contributes to lighting the car park. The latest lighting audit by
Councils Lighting engineer confirms that current lighting meets Council’s
Lighting Strategy. This strategy recognises the significant impacts
lighting has on people including safety, discomfort and light pollution
and the environmental cost in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, affecting
plants, animals and birds and pollution. No further action will be taken
at this time.
- Youth Programs - Community services have been
working to attract a youth services officer. A grant proposal has been prepared to attract youth programs officer for
this area
- Locking up play equipment – the trial during lock down was postponed. A new trial will be organised
- Current lighting meets Councils Lighting
Strategy. This strategy recognises the significant impacts lighting has on
people including safety, discomfort and light pollution and the
environmental cost in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, affecting plants,
animals and birds and pollution.
