Project updates

Playground now open!

Project update - 27 October 2020

Thanks to the community for submitting ideas for the playground equipment and layout. We have finalised the designs for the playground and have awarded the contract to Proludic. Construction commenced in mid September and the playground is now open!

Project background

As part of our Let’s All Play Strategy, we asked the local community for feedback on plans to upgrade the Alexandra Reserve children's playground.

We have listened to community feedback and understand the space is not fit for purpose and requires attention. We are proposing that the playground is renewed to include more traditional playground structures for families to enjoy.

As with the development of the existing playground in 2012, we have worked directly with the local community to understand what you like about the park currently and what you'd like to see improved.

Consultation outcomes

Feedback results indicated that the community wanted to see more climbing equipment provided, the incorporation of a slide, and varying levels of challenge with the equipment to cater for different age groups and ability levels.

The designs below show a mix of rubber soft fall, sand and fine mulch to provide varied surfaces for different ages and abilities. With a mix of interactive, sensory play equipment and more advanced play options, we hope the playground will attract children of all ages.

With a view to increase imaginative free form play, we incorporated some stepping stones, a picnic table, and exploration areas outside of the built play space.

The footpath and bridge will remain as the community would like access through the park to be maintained. There will be additional plantings and landscaping to improve the playground experience, including replacing the current chicken wire fencing. There will also be additional seating for carers.
